Girls Inc. Receives Philanthropy Award
On October 22nd, Girls Inc. of Omaha was one of nine non-profits recognized by Bank of the West at its fourth annual Philanthropy Awards. Roberta Wilhelm, Girls Inc. Executive Director; Esther Mejia, past Board Chair; and Nuzhat Mahmood, Board member and Bank of the West team member; travelled to San Francisco to represent Girls Inc. at the award ceremony, held at the Ritz Carlton.
Girls Inc., along with nonprofits ARCA and Year Up Bay Area, were recognized in the Team Member Commitment Award category which recognizes a nonprofit in honor of a Bank of the West team member whose leadership has significantly advanced the organization’s mission and inspired fellow team members. In recognition of Nuzhat Mahmood’s commitment, Girls Inc. received first runner up in this category, receiving a $10,000 cash award.
“Bank of the West believes that unity brings strength. They believe in strengthening our communities through the investment of human and financial capital, especially within under-resourced neighborhoods,” stated Wilhelm. “Chanecia and the hundreds of other girls like her that we serve every day are living proof that their investments are paying off with lasting change. We are grateful to Bank of the West, especially Alec Gorynski, Community Affairs Interim Manager, and our own Nuzhat Mahmood for believing in the girls.”
Other nonprofits recognized at the Bank of the West Philanthropy Awards event include Beats, Rhymes and Life; LA River Revitalization Corporation; Momentum Alliance; Accion NM-CO-AZ; Bread & Roses; and TeamSmile. Read more about the 2013 Bank of the West Philanthropy Awards.
