Girls + Roller Derby = True Love!
It was really exciting how fast the girls were skating. – Ashleigh
It was exciting to see the girls push each other to prevent the other team from scoring. – Erin
It was a totally new experience for all of us. The Omaha Rollergirls have a huge and very diverse fan base. There were so many people there and there were all kinds of people, too. It was like a big party. We all learned how points are scored by passing and how a defensive team tries to keep the other team from scoring. The girls were really into it and loved cheering and chanting for the Omaha team. The Omaha Rollergirls sat right in the front row when the Girls Inc. step team performed and our girls really appreciated that. The the team took the time to pose for a photo with us, too. It was a really fun outing for all of us. – Ms. Fatema

MVP Acceptance Speech
Dear Ms. Roberta,
When I heard I had won the “MVP” (Most Valuable Parent) Award, I was surprised and honored. I wanted to write a thank you response down so that the Girls Inc. staff would know of all of the thanksgiving I have for them, so that nothing goes unmentioned.
My girls have been through a lot in their 10 and 13 years of age due to being placed in foster care because of my former drug use. In the system they were referred to, and known as, a last name on their docket and a number. At Girls Inc., they received an identity. They are: Chanecia Martin, age 13, who is very girly, loves all the latest fashions, enjoys singing, has a mind for Lego League, and is now certified in CPR and babysitting. Chalecia Trotter, age 10, who loves basketball and is good at playing it, who participates in Operation SMART, and who is learning to make and be a friend to girls in her age group.
Have my girls been in trouble at Girls Inc.? Of course. But all issues were addressed, and handled fairly and appropriately and we moved forward from there.
The staff at Girls Inc. are not afraid to address issues that a young girl, teen, or young lady may encounter, such as rumors of promiscuity, teen pregnancy, homework, trouble making, name calling, as well as job searching, essay writing for college scholarships…any issue that a female faces, Girls Inc. is there.
I want to say thank you Girls Inc. staff for the breakfast, lunch, Snackalisicous, talks of encouragement, field trips, lock-ins, parties, and all guidance giving to my daughters and all of the other girls you guys are helping and have helped – because the Girls Inc. building is just that – a building. It is the staff that makes Girls Inc.
Thank you so much.
Sincerely,
A Mom!

An Outing to the UNO Hockey Game
Northern Natural and the UNO Women’s Soccer Team hosted Girls Inc. to a night at UNO Hockey last Friday. We had a blast. The girls were treated to pre-game pizza and pop. They got to mingle with the soccer players and talk to them. I love that the soccer players talked about being on the honor roll and being serious students. The told the girls it was fun to play soccer but they also wanted to keep their grades up. Northern Natural also gave each girl a winter head band, sort of an ear warmer. The girls loved them because they think they are all too cool to wear hats. This winter, those head bands will come in very handy! Oh yeah, UNO won. – Ms. Emily
The soccer players asked the girls about themselves, too. They asked about their likes and dislikes, which sports they liked to play, and where they went to school. It was a nice opportunity for the girls and the soccer team to share a little bit. – Ms. Fatema

First time skating!
This was my first time skating. You have to have a lot of balance. I did pretty good. My friend Korrine was helping me skate. Kind of teaching me. – Hunter
