Overnighter is a big success!
139 girls particpated in the Girls Inc. overnighter this past weekend. There was bowling, karoke, movies, snacks and a whole lot more! – Ms. Emily
It was fun! The karaoke – it was fun to watch other girls sing but they didn’t really sing with the rhythm. Then we got to watch the movie Coraline. Well, i just fell asleep at the beginning because I was tired. – Renee, age 8
Friday Free Time at the Emma Lozier Center
YWCA Paint the Town Orange
We entered the banquet, were greeted and made our way to the boutique (yay shopping!). The next step, the bar…but no alcohol. We sipped on Sunkist to stay true to the “Paint the Town Orange” theme. We modeled for a few pics, then were seated for the program. Chicken with an apricot sauce, carrots, and Parisienne Potatoes (oui oui!) were on the menu. Ms. Liz Funk spoke to us about “supergirl,” the non-realistic perfect teenage queen. She encouraged us to be ourselves and that no one is perfect. You go Liz..preach on sista!

YWCA Fancy Fund-Raising Dinner
I love this place! Pick me to go again next year, please. – Brianna
Ms. Roberta, you should have given us a test on how to use all of these forks before we came. – Seinna
Homework
I am writing a paper for Social Studies on Clara Barton. Right now I’m looking up how she helped soldiers. It’s nice to be able to do my homework at Girls Inc.

Programs, Programs & More Programs
I love days of excellent programming! We’ve got Map It Out, sports basics, My Girlfriend Zelda, GIRLStart, Lego League, art, and more all going on today. Ooh… I wonder what the end of the week will bring??! Wait! Wait! It’s the end of October – we have our Harvest Party this Friday for all of our girls! Oh, how I wish I was a Girls Inc. girl!!

All Work and No Play Makes Ms. Emily a Dull Girl
After a couple of days of (grueling!) workshops at the Girls Inc. regional conference in Oakland, CA., we got a night off. Board member Marie Roscoe, Ms, Emily, and I took a ferry to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco. There were no onboard workshops on ferry safety.

Helping Hands
I was so happy when I walked into the gym and saw these girls helping Renee, who recently broke her ankle, get ready to go to OperationSMART. Awwww.

Denai – A Role Model
Denai, a teen, is a great role model to the girls in our center. She works hard at every project she has.
