Cooking Matters for Kids

The VNA, in partnership with ConAgra Foods, has been offering cooking classes for Girls Inc. members through the Cooking Matters for Kids program.  The mission of Cooking Matters is to “empower families with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to prepare healthy and affordable meals.”

In this photo, the girls are learning to use ground turkey – healthier alternative to ground beef – to make enchiladas.

The girls mix it up…

Just like the mice in the book MOUSE PAINT, the girls mixed food coloring to see how the colors changed when they combined primary colors.

“My favorite color was purple when we mixed red and blue.” – Amara
“Ms. Mara always gives us fun activities.” – Taylor

Reading MOUSE PAINT

“MOUSE PAINT is a very good book.  The mice get in the paint and then they mix it up into different colors and then they dance and jump on paper and make a mess but it’s OK because it’s art and they are mice and mice don’t get in that much trouble anyway.  You should read this book if you want to because it is a good book.  And you will learn about making colors.  Red and blue makes purple.” – Asia
